Fiber Cement Siding

Fiber cement siding is made from a composite of sand, cement, and cellulose fibers that are pressed together to form planks or shingles. It’s long-lasting, low-maintenance, and available in an abundance of colors and profiles.

Fiber cement siding also doesn’t experience the expansion and contraction of wood and vinyl siding. J&L is proud to stock the entire James Hardie Statement Collection™.

FAQs

What types of siding options do I have?

There are many different types of exterior siding from vinyl to cedar. With the wide range of options available, it can be difficult to find the right product. So we created a guide to the Best Exterior Siding Materials to help simplify your choice.

How long will it take to side my home?

On average, it will take a professional crew 7-14 days to replace the siding on a home. This estimate can change depending on several factors like the weather, the size of your home, and the type of siding you select.

What is the lifespan of siding?

The lifespan of siding depends greatly on the specific material. Some types can last as long as 40 years or more, while others may only last 20 years. One of the factors that can affect your siding is moisture management.

Does siding require any maintenance?

It depends on which type of siding you choose. There’s no such thing as maintenance-free siding, but some options require considerably less than others. We discuss maintenance in our Best Exterior Siding Materials Guide.

How can I tell if it’s time to replace the siding?

Different signs include loose or missing pieces, pest damage, fading, buckling, cracking, warping, sagging, rotting, or blistering. If you notice any of these issues, it’s likely time to replace your siding.

Can I put new siding over old siding?

If you have old vinyl or metal siding, it’s usually necessary to remove it before installing new siding. Although it’s technically possible to install new vinyl over old wood, it’s generally not recommended by manufacturers or experts due to the potential for problems. For optimal longevity and home health, it’s best to remove the old siding.
